Goodbye to Jonah Hill's Instagram Account
My favourite Instagram account is gone, but not forgotten (I have screenshots)

I hadn’t seen a post from my favourite Instagram account for a while so I searched Jonah Hill’s name and discovered that he had deleted his account. With further investigation I found out that he’d deleted because it caused him too much anxiety, which okay, understandable. Social media is slowly killing our brains and if I didn’t need it for my career I would get a flip phone like my boy Chris Pine.
During the height of the pandemic Jonah Hill’s Instagram posts were the main thing I looked forward to, cause you know, there wasn’t a lot to look forward to. All his posts were positive, about living his best life, not letting haters influence him. He posted pictures of himself and his dog, selfies where he looked genuinely happy, sometimes in the water grinning on a surfboard. He was definitely doing a lot of weed and mushrooms.
Jonah Hill has always been an inspiration to me and it all started with one photo:
There’s something about this photo that is calming to me. The little smirk on his face while he happily holds his phone and his shopping. The casual outfit he wears, with what I’m sure is a jaunty step. When I saw this photo I thought that’s how I want to feel all the time, happy with no fucks to give and holding a tiny shopping bag.
Jonah’s popularity online began with a photo of him holding an iced coffee right before it smashed onto a New York City sidewalk. He used Instagram to address the viral photo that had become a meme:
Jonah used his account to post nice little captions, my favourite being “Nihilism sux,” cause you know, nihilism sux. If Jonah started a cult I’d be the first member.
I spent the pandemic doing a variety of things to improve my life. I quit smoking, began working out every day, curbed my drinking from too much to barely ever, got into taking edibles, cut bad friends out of my life, and started fully enjoying the things I like without worrying what other people think (because no one else was around). What I’m saying is my life is very boring now but I rarely get diarrhea.
Jonah said in a GQ article that he was meditating, taking steams, vitamins and wellness shots, and surfed with his friends for a positive and healthy lifestyle.
I felt like me and Jonah were on a parallel journey. We’ve struggled with weight our entire lives. When you’re uncomfortable in your own body it’s hard to have a good time. It’s even hard to leave your apartment, so seeing him happy made me happy.
His account wasn’t just about posting pictures of himself living his best life. He also got to control his own narrative and address things the media posted about him.
The vibe Jonah created with his account is the vibe I strive for.
I will miss Jonah and his surfboard. But let’s keep “morning qts” alive. 🏄♂️
The perfect dedication.
